What is the difference between PUR and PIR?
PIR is the ‘improved version’ of PUR and offers an even higher insulation value and superior performance in terms of fire safety.
Performance
The major advantage of PUR/PIR compared to other insulation materials is the insulation value.
The Lambda value of PUR/PIR is situated between 0.022 to 0.032 W/mK. This means that PUR/PIR offers superior insulation with the same thickness. In other words, the insulation layer is thinner and more efficient, leaving more available space.

Choose the right insulation and save money
When determining the energy level of a building, the energy expert takes into account transmission loss caused by the building envelope and loss due to air leaks and ventilation. Transmission depends directly on the heat resistance of the building envelope (R value). If we conveniently disregard air leaks and ventilation, this means that doubling the R value halves both energy loss and energy consumption.
Take, for instance, a pitched roof of an average dwelling with a surface area of 60 m
2: by doubling the R value of the roof to 5.0 instead of 2.5 m² K/W, the occupants save some 100 m³ of gas per year.
Since less PIR/PUR is required compared to other insulation materials to obtain the same R value, the investment in insulation material is also more modest.
Why opt for PUR/PIR insulation boards
-
PUR/PIR is one of the most efficient insulating materials available today
-
With PIR/PUR, the insulation layer is thinner, giving you more space
-
The boards are fitted with a tongue and groove system for a perfect fit or straight edges for applications where air circulation is not an option (e.g. flat roofs and floors)
-
Facade is perfectly windtight, thanks to the tongue and groove finish and UNITAPE
-
PUR/PIR boards offer excellent dimensional stability and high compressive strength
-
Lightweight: easier installation and easy to cut to size
